Getting Started
How do I start a workout?
On iPhone or iPad, open the Training tab. The title at the top is Push-Ups.
- Tap Level to complete a structured workout from the program.
- Tap Freestyle to train without preset sets or push-up targets.
A short countdown gives you time to get into position. Your first push-up begins the first set.
On Apple Watch, open Pushanova and tap Level or Freestyle.
How do I choose a level?
On iPhone or iPad, open Training and tap Choose Level. On Apple Watch, tap Choose next to Level.
The program has 50 levels in three stages. You can start at any level available to you. Completing the required push-ups advances the program to the next level.
Levels 1–10 are free. Levels 11–50 require Pushanova Premium.
How do I train without the program?
Start Freestyle on iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. You decide how many push-ups and sets to perform.
When Pushanova detects a rest, it finishes the current set. Your next push-up begins a new set. Tap Complete Workout when you are finished. You can also continue freely after you finish a level in the same workout.
What do the set boxes mean?
On iPhone and iPad, the Sets row shows the sets in the current workout. Each box represents one set.
During a program workout:
- Upcoming boxes show the planned push-up targets.
- The highlighted box shows the current set.
- The large number shows how many push-ups remain in the current planned set.
- A completed box shows how many push-ups you performed.
- Additional sets appear after you continue beyond the program target.
When you train freely, each box appears after Pushanova finishes a set. The large number shows the push-up count for the current set.
You can scroll the row when it contains many sets. Apple Watch shows text such as Set 2 of 5 instead of boxes.
How should I position my iPhone or iPad?
For automatic camera counting, place the device flat on the floor with the screen facing up. Keep the front camera under your face, use good light, and keep your face in view. Do not prop the device at an angle.
If Camera access is unavailable on iPhone, place the top edge of the phone near your face. The screen may briefly turn black when your face is close. This is expected.
If you do not use Camera access on iPad, turn on Tap to Count and tap the screen for each push-up.
Push-Up Counting
Which kinds of push-ups are supported?
iPhone and iPad support standard floor push-ups and push-ups from your knees.
Apple Watch supports floor push-ups and elevated push-ups on a bench or horizontal bar.
Push-ups on parallel handles with your palms facing each other are not supported. Knuckle push-ups may work, but counting can be less accurate.
What should I do if Pushanova misses or adds push-ups?
Automatic counting can miss or add push-ups. Device position, lighting, movement, form, and speed can affect the result.
On iPhone or iPad:
- Place the device flat on the floor.
- Keep your face visible to the front camera.
- Use good light.
- Complete a clear downward and upward movement.
- Keep other movement away from the camera.
On Apple Watch:
- Wear the band firmly and comfortably.
- Complete a clear downward and upward movement.
- Avoid moving the Watch arm separately from the push-up.
You can use Tap to Count when automatic counting is not suitable. After the workout, you can correct the counts for completed sets.
What should I do if automatic counting does not work at all?
- Confirm that the device is in the correct position.
- On iPhone or iPad, check Camera access for Pushanova.
- On Apple Watch, check Apple Health access and wear Watch firmly on your wrist.
- Close and reopen Pushanova.
- Start a short test workout.
- If counting still does not work, use Report an Issue from the completed workout.
On iPad without Camera access, use Tap to Count.
Why does my iPhone screen briefly turn black?
When Camera access is unavailable, iPhone can use another built-in counting method. The screen may briefly turn black when your face is close to the top of the phone.
This is expected and does not mean that Pushanova is taking a photo or recording video.
How do I count push-ups by tapping the screen?
Open Settings in Pushanova and turn on Tap to Count. During a workout, each tap on the workout screen counts one push-up.
Can I correct or add push-ups after a workout?
You can correct the number of push-ups in sets that already exist. Open the workout, tap Edit on the push-up chart, change the set counts, and tap Save.
Editing does not add another set to the workout. To record additional work as a separate session, open Workouts, tap Add Workout, and enter the sets by hand.
What is included in a counting issue report?
Open a completed workout and select Report an Issue. You can describe the problem and provide the push-up counts that you expected.
The report may include movement measurements, push-up counts, timing information, device information, app version, and language. It does not include photos or video.
The report is sent by email only when you choose to send it.
Apple Watch
Can I use Pushanova on Apple Watch without my iPhone?
Yes. You can start and complete a workout on Apple Watch without your iPhone nearby. Open Pushanova on Watch and tap Level or Freestyle.
Apple Health access is required for Watch workouts.
The Watch app is focused on active workouts and the summary shown immediately afterward. Use Pushanova on iPhone or iPad for full workout history, calendar, progress, editing, issue reports, and sharing.
How do I use Apple Watch and iPhone together?
On iPhone, open Pushanova Settings and turn on Use Apple Watch. Make sure Pushanova is installed on Watch and that Watch is unlocked and nearby. Then start the workout on iPhone or Apple Watch.
Apple Watch counts your push-ups while iPhone displays the same workout. Push-up counts, sets, pace, and rest remain synchronized.
Paired Apple Watch workouts are available with iPhone, not iPad.
Why will a workout not start on Apple Watch?
Check the following:
- Apple Health access is allowed for Pushanova on Watch.
- Another workout is not already running on Watch.
- Watch is unlocked.
- Pushanova is installed on Watch.
If you started from iPhone and see Apple Watch Not Responding, check whether the workout is already open on Watch. Otherwise, open Pushanova on Watch and try again.
Why is my Apple Watch workout missing on iPhone or iPad?
Pushanova saves its workout record separately from Apple Health. When iCloud synchronization is enabled, Pushanova workout records synchronize through your personal iCloud account. The Apple Health copy is a separate strength-training workout.
Confirm that:
- The workout contained at least one counted push-up.
- The workout reached its summary.
- Your devices use the same Apple Account.
- iCloud is enabled for Pushanova.
- Both devices have an internet connection.
Open Pushanova on iPhone or iPad and allow time for synchronization. If the workout appears in Apple Health but not in Pushanova, include that information when you contact support.
Apple Health, Heart Rate, and Calories
Is Apple Health required?
Apple Health is optional on iPhone and iPad. Without Apple Health, Pushanova still counts push-ups, saves workouts in the app, and estimates active calories.
Apple Health access is required to start a workout on Apple Watch.
How do I give Pushanova access to Apple Health?
Open the Health access settings for Pushanova in the Health app or system Settings. Review the categories that Pushanova can read and write.
Pushanova requests only the categories needed for workouts, heart rate, active calories, and calorie estimates. You can change access later in Apple Health or system Settings.
What does Pushanova save to Apple Health?
With your permission, Pushanova saves a completed strength-training workout and active calories to Apple Health. Duration and heart rate are included when available.
Push-up counts and set counts remain in Pushanova. Apple Health does not store those counts.
Pushanova can read supported Health information, such as heart rate, active calories, and body mass, when you allow it. This information is used for workouts and calorie estimates.
Why is my workout missing from Apple Health?
Check the following:
- Apple Health access allows Pushanova to save workouts.
- The workout contained at least one counted push-up.
- You completed the workout and reached the summary.
- No save error appeared on the summary.
On Apple Watch, Health access must remain enabled during the workout.
Which devices can provide heart rate?
Heart rate can come from:
- Apple Watch during a Pushanova Watch workout
- Compatible heart-rate earbuds
- A Bluetooth heart-rate monitor connected through Apple Watch, iPhone, or iPad
Pushanova does not pair heart-rate devices directly. Connect supported devices through Apple settings.
Heart-rate sensing with compatible earbuds requires iOS 26 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 26 or later on iPad.
Why is heart rate missing?
Confirm that:
- Pushanova can read heart rate in Apple Health.
- Apple Watch is worn firmly and comfortably.
- A compatible heart-rate device is connected and active during the workout.
Allow a short time for heart-rate information to appear after the workout starts. An iPhone or iPad workout may not show heart rate when no compatible source provides it.
How are active calories calculated?
Pushanova uses active calories from Apple Health when they are available. Otherwise, Pushanova estimates active calories from available workout information.
An estimate does not require heart-rate information. Allowing Pushanova to read your weight from Apple Health can improve the estimate.
Detailed heart-rate, pace, and cadence charts require Pushanova Premium. The workout and basic summary are still saved without Premium.
Workouts and Progress
Why did my workout not save or appear in history?
Pushanova does not save a workout with zero counted push-ups. A canceled or discarded workout is also not saved.
Other possible causes include insufficient device storage or closing the app while the workout is being saved. If a save fails, the summary explains that the workout will not appear in history.
If iCloud synchronization is enabled, allow time for a completed workout to appear on your other devices. Apple Health stores a separate copy and is not the source of Pushanova workout synchronization.
Pushanova closed during a workout. Can I recover it?
Often, yes. Reopen Pushanova and follow the recovery message. On Apple Watch, Workout Interrupted may appear, and dismissing it saves the completed part when possible.
Recovery may not be possible when the stored workout is damaged, too old, or the device does not have enough free storage. If the problem continues:
- Update Pushanova and the device operating system.
- Restart the device.
- Confirm that the device has free storage.
- Do not close Pushanova while Complete Workout is saving.
How do I add a workout manually?
On iPhone or iPad, open Workouts, tap Add Workout, and enter the sets and push-up counts.
Use manual entry for a push-up workout completed without automatic counting.
How do I view previous workouts and progress?
On iPhone or iPad:
- Open Workouts to view individual workouts, sets, duration, calories, notes, and available details.
- Open Progress to view lifetime totals, recent consistency, your highest set, and available charts.
- Open Calendar to view workouts by date. Calendar requires Pushanova Premium.
Pushanova Premium also includes weekly comparisons, detailed progress charts, and additional pace, cadence, and heart-rate details.
Apple Watch shows a summary immediately after a workout. Full history and progress are available on iPhone and iPad.
How do I change or skip a program level?
Open Choose Level on iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Select any available level.
Completing the required push-ups advances the program to the next level. You can also repeat a level or skip to another level. Levels 11–50 require Pushanova Premium.
How do I reset my progress?
There is no single control that resets all progress.
- Change the current program level with Choose Level.
- Delete workouts individually from Workouts.
- Manage Pushanova data stored in iCloud through your device settings.
Apple Health copies and diagnostic reports sent by email are stored separately. Uninstalling Pushanova does not remove those copies.
Privacy and Data
Does automatic counting take photos or record video?
No. Automatic counting does not take photos or record, save, or upload video. Pushanova does not use the camera to identify you.
Post-workout photos are separate. Pushanova uses a photo only when you choose one for sharing.
What counting information is stored with a workout?
Pushanova may save movement measurements that help it count push-ups. These measurements are not photos or video.
They stay with the workout on your device. If iCloud synchronization is on, they can synchronize through your personal iCloud account. They are not sent to a Pushanova server unless you choose Report an Issue and send the email.
For complete details, read the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my Pushanova data?
To delete workout data:
- Delete individual workouts in Workouts. When iCloud synchronization is enabled, the deletion synchronizes through iCloud.
- Remove Pushanova data from iCloud through your device's iCloud storage settings if you want to delete the cloud copy.
- Delete Apple Health copies separately in Apple Health. Pushanova may also delete a matching Health workout when it has permission.
Uninstalling Pushanova removes data stored only on that device. Data already stored in iCloud or Apple Health remains until you delete it there.
If you sent a diagnostic report or photo submission by email, contact info@genebogdanovich.com to request deletion of the copy received by the developer.
Does Pushanova require an account?
No. Pushanova does not require a sign-up, username, password, or social login.
Pushanova Premium is connected to the Apple Account used for the App Store purchase. This is not a Pushanova account.
Does Pushanova use analytics or crash reporting?
Pushanova uses standard product analytics and crash reporting. These services do not receive photos, video, camera-based counting measurements, or Apple Health information.
Pushanova does not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Read the Privacy Policy for details.
Devices and Compatibility
Which operating system versions are supported?
- iPhone: iOS 17.6 or later
- iPad: iPadOS 17.6 or later
- Apple Watch: watchOS 10.6 or later
Any device that can run a supported version can install Pushanova. Available counting methods depend on the device and the permissions you allow.
Is Pushanova a full iPad app?
Yes. Pushanova on iPad includes automatic counting, program workouts, training without preset targets, workout history, progress, analytics, and Apple Health.
iPad does not support a paired Apple Watch workout. Use iPhone when you want Apple Watch and another screen to display the same active workout.
If you do not use Camera access on iPad, enable Tap to Count.
Does Pushanova require an internet connection?
No internet connection is required to start and save a workout on one device.
An internet connection is required for iCloud synchronization, App Store purchases, restoring purchases, and sending a support email.
Troubleshooting
Pushanova is not responding. What should I do?
Close and reopen Pushanova. If it still does not respond, restart the device.
On Apple Watch, unlock Watch and open Pushanova again. If a workout started from iPhone appears to stop, check whether the workout is already open on Watch.
Why is Pushanova not synchronizing between my devices?
For workout history:
- Confirm that the devices use the same Apple Account.
- Confirm that iCloud is enabled for Pushanova.
- Connect both devices to the internet.
- Open Pushanova on each device and allow time for synchronization.
Apple Health stores a separate workout copy. Apple Health is not the source of Pushanova workout-history synchronization.
For Pushanova Premium, tap Restore on the device using the Apple Account that made the purchase.
For an active iPhone and Apple Watch workout, keep Watch unlocked and nearby and make sure Use Apple Watch is enabled in Pushanova Settings.
